Meet Tom Tesnow

Tom Tesnow, Publisher of The Magazine of Country Music

Drummer. Publisher. Promoter. Believer.

Tom Tesnow's journey with country music began in Findlay, Ohio, drumming on Maxwell House coffee cans before getting his first drum kit at age 13. He formed the Tesnow Brothers Band with siblings Larry and Ron, eventually touring across America chasing his dream of becoming Elvis Presley's drummer.

After settling in Michigan in 1979 and marrying Christine, Tom channeled his passion into publishing. He learned the trade from libraries and friends, launching what would become a 40-year institution in Michigan's country music scene.

A proud member of the Center Line Lions Club, Tom has coordinated countless charity jamborees, raising money for organizations including the American Cancer Society, Muscular Dystrophy, and the Shriners. He was nominated for the Macomb County Volunteer of The Year Award in 1999.

Tom is blessed with five children, ten grandchildren, and counting. As his daughter Traci says, "We are not half, step or anything else, we are all family!"

Preserved in the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum Archives since 1999

The Music Continues

Tom has retired the magazine, but still books live entertainment through Gallatin Entertainment. Cover bands, tribute acts, and original artists for events throughout the country.

Book Live Entertainment

For forty years, The Magazine of Country Music served as Michigan's voice for country music fans. Founded in 1981 by Tom Tesnow in Warren, Michigan, the publication grew from a humble 3,000-copy debut called "East Side News Country Magazine" into an institution that connected Midwest audiences with the biggest names in country music.

What began as a passion project by a former touring drummer became a four-decade celebration of country music's heart and soul. Tom didn't just write about country music-he lived it, booking bands, coordinating charity events, and building a community of readers who shared his love for the genre.

The magazine's final edition was published in 2021, but its legacy lives on through the thousands of articles, photographs, and memories captured across 40 years of country music history.
